Australian Coot in New Zealand

I know just what you mean! My attempts at capturing them at Fountains Abbey were not wonderfully successful!
I feel like adding:
'Mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who is the fairest one of all?'
(Except, of course, it's on the water and not on the wall!)
But this little coot really does look to be enjoying her own reflection!
Lovely details and that wake, created by the bird, really shows how fast she was travelling!

Splendid capture of this Coot racing ahead and with a fine reflection in the water. Great focus on the eye and lovely colours. I like the framing too.
TFS and cheers, Ulla
Nice action shot of an Australian Coot propelling itself forward in the water. I like the reflection of its head in the calm part of the water while it stretches its neck. The body seems a paler shade of grey compared to our subspecies but the head is just as black.
TFS this fine image,

A most dynamic action capture combining the reflection & waters wake..
And that additional mini-wake from the dribbling beak is the icing on the cake as they say :)
Love this mf,

We have similar specie here as well! I like the way you composed this picture and you managed well with exposure. They are not easy to calibrate with those so contrasted tones of colors. Well done and cheers!

Neat image Janice...What red eyes it has. The whole S Hemisphere is a wonder to me and perhaps will remain that way so your sharp, clear images give me something, some view I will not perhaps have any other way. Very good lesson.
I like this picture and this poor bird. One question - why did you axed top of its head? It was really naughty :-)
How can this be???...
An Australian bird has taken over New Zealand? Did it have a passport when it arrived? Was it checked at customs or did it enter NZ illegally?
Were merciless hordes of Australian Coots responsible for the extinction of NZ's own native species? How are the NZ military authorities going to respond to this heinous crime? Will this mean war between New Zealand and Australia? Will this trigger a world-wide nuclear exchange??
OMG!!! Are we all gonna die?
Inquiring minds want to know. :)
