One of three Sumatran Tiger Cubs

On 12 June 2008 three critically endangered Sumatran tiger cubs were born at Auckland Zoo
.

They are now 8 months old and I got to see them for the first time this week. They were happily wrestling playfully with their mum and each other. They are quite large now, but not as big as their mother yet. . .

They are called Jalur, Cinta and Bernai.

The zoo has 2 resident adult Sumatran tigers, the male is Oz and the female is Molek. They live separately as neighbours, as they would be solitary in the wild.

The cubs are part of a 10-year breeding plan, and were a blessing for the zoo and for worldwide conservation efforts, as fewer than 300 Sumatran tigers remain in the wild.

Photo taken from a distance through a dirty glass window.

Hello Janice! Amazing tiger. Wonderful POV and capture. Excellent sharpness. Perfect colours. Good luck!

There is something about the way you captured this against the backdrop that makes ones eyes go straight to its eyes...Totally mesmerizing! I would have said where are the legs...but I cant get my eyes off that face and teh patterns..I think this picture was meant to be taken...wow!

Hello Janice , Excellent shot great sharpnes composition pov eye contact, good job , Good Weekend Teunie .

Janice,

What a great picture of this lovely Tiger.

You have done a very good job of cleaning up the picture. I can not tell it was taken through dirty glass. Catching the light in both eyes is perfect. It looks like I am being stared at.

Some folks don't like or believe in Zoo's, but here is a good case were they provide a vital service.

Thanks for sharing the picture and the story of the cubs.

Bob
