When I saw this photo I thought it must be a shell with some kind of strange deformity,so I was amazed to read that this is normal.
Unorthodox is certainly a good word to describe it.
A very good capture and an interesting post.
Thanks for sharing.

A stupendous formation, indeed, Mehmet.
One end of the shell is so very finely shaped; the other end, on the contrary, looks just functional. Nature has super intelligence too that can distinguish between aesthetics and practicality at the same time.
Your note has explained the formation briefly but effectively.
As usual, this is a professional job that presents the shell clearly and beautifully.
Thanks and regards.

I was hoping that one day you would post an image of a worm shell and that you show V. gigas is great. This is a perfect illustration of this species taken from a great POV with excellent sharpness and lighting, the supra substratal area being clearly discernable.
Thanks for sharing this one MF and have a great weekend.

Such bizarreness you have captured this time. And the non-zoologists among us might have thought that shell-forming mollusca were always neat and orderly and predictable in their construction, like your recent nautilus. What an interesting exception you've given us to scuttle that misconception. Thanks.
