Another shot of one of my favorite birds of this region of Canada. I was lucky that I could get really close to the bird and using my long tele-photo lens I took this close-up. Here is more on Cardinals from Wikipedia:

The Cardinals or Cardinalidae are a family of passerine birds living in North and South America.

These are robust, seed-eating birds, with strong bills. They are typically associated with open woodland. The sexes usually have distinctive appearances; the family is named for the red plumage (like that of a Catholic cardinal's vestments) of males of the type species, the Northern Cardinal.

The “buntings” in this family are sometimes generically known as “tropical buntings” (though not all live in the tropics) or “North American buntings” (though there are other buntings in North America) to distinguish them from the true buntings. Likewise the grosbeaks in this family are sometimes called “cardinal-grosbeaks” to distinguish them from other grosbeaks. The name “cardinal-grosbeak” can also apply to this family as a whole.

Cardinals mate in early spring. Their nests are loosely woven in tall bushes such as honeysuckle and rose. Their diet includes seeds and small berries. In fact, the berry of the holly bush, which is rich in beta carotene and lycopenes, is responsible for the brilliant coloring of the male specimen.

Wow what colors very close crop shows the bird in all its glory nice eye good shot

Hi Varahram, this is a very good, sharp shot of this male cardinal. The cropping is good helping to improve the overall composition. Excellent detail and colour. Love that eye!

Thanks, John

Hi dear Varahram ,
excellent work.
great colours and nice sharpnes.
well composed.

il aurait peu etre fallut lui laisser de l'espace devant mais superbe couleur et excellente netteté.

Hello Varahram,
Great closeup with very good color, exposure and sharp details. Nice catchlight and POV also. Perhaps a tiny bit more space around the bird, in this tightly cropped closeup composition.
Well done & TFS.

Hello Varahram,
This is a beautiful capture of a flamboyant bird that I like very much. I have the chance to see those birds almost everyday and I just love them. Details, POV, exposure and colors are wonderful. Like some other people already said, I would have composed it the same way but by letting a little more space in front of the bird and a little more up too. I use the same lens you do so I guess that you must have been quite close :) Well done with superb catch light in its eye :) TFS,

Hello Varaharam,
Thanks for dropping by and leaving your comment on one of my recent pictures of Hypocolius.
Cardinal seems to be a favorite of most Canadians :-)!
In the first place, it is one of the most photogenic birds one gets to see on TN. Secondly, I am happily sure there must be a healthy population of these birds spread all over Canada.
Your image of this bird is excellent. The profile view offers the colors and features of this bird in sharp detail.

Hello Varahram! Great capture, you've got the colour just right! Wonderful detail! Detail on the face is particularly good, especially the glint in his eye! Impressive! Linda
