[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'll go out on a limb here and call this "Lichen on a Stick"...

During a hike with a fellow photographer, and while shooting carpets of bunch-berries, I spotted an interesting exposed tree-root. The end of the root looked to have lichen growing on its tip.

The colours were striking.

""Lichens are symbiotic associations of a fungus (the mycobiont) with a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont also known as the phycobiont) that can produce food for the lichen from sunlight. The photobiont is usually either green algae or cyanobacteria. A few lichens are known to contain yellow-green algae or, in one case, a brown alga. Some lichens contain both green algae and cyanobacteria as photobionts; in these cases, the cyanobacteria symbiont component may specialize in fixing atmospheric nitrogen for metabolic use. The word is pronounced lie-k'n (IPA: [laɪkən])."" [ per WIKI ]

In the background are a) bunch-berries [top] and b) corn-lilies [bottom]

Bonjour,
Belle photo très décorative !
Bonne journée.

I see this all the time, but have not thought to capture it. I think in this photo you have made something normal in a forest come to life with the DOF and excellent lighting. Well presented.

Hi Jay.
Wonderful composition to make this lichen really really stand out from the normal view.
Exposure, DOF and detail, all spot on. There is a white object in the background top that keeps taking the eye to it and away from lichen. Maybe you could clone that out, I think it would help, as the image of the lichen you have given us deserves ALL the attention.
Wonderful image

Hello Jay,
Well my friend, by the title I thought of a popsicle, but here you have for us an excellent image of lichen, the likes off I have seen before, but as you know I'm to busy with other things and over look some of the fastinating smaller subjects. Thanks for this reminder to look at the whole picture.

Hi Jay.
You managed to reflect this lichen excellently and your photo is corresponded with note very well. DOF and colours are really amazing as well as the fine details of the stick. I also like your excellent cropping and composition of the shot. Nice, well done picture. My kind regards and best wishes.
Alexei.

Magnifique avec le BG qui fait ressortir la plante.
Bravo
Marie

Hi Jay,
exquisite colours in that combination. Fascinating structures. Very well chosen background for showing that branch covered with lichen in front of vitally young undergrowth. The scene reminds me very much of those lovely humid mountain forests on our Alpine northern slopes.
Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Cool closeup Jay, really great Bg here..
Much better than s*#t on a stick! ;}}

Jay,
Another great photo. I like the green BG which sets off the lichen on that stick with that deep in the bush lighting.

Cheers :)

Hi Jay!

Thanks for your visit to my gallery, this incited me to look at yours. I've chosen this picture to comment because its colors and shapes please me a lot. Moreover, I like the artistic aspect, very well highlighted by the blurred background.

Kind regards

Markus
