I have decided to put up a bird which does not live in water and has visible feet! Thanks to everyone who gave constructive critiques on the footless Heron.

Starling
Sturnus vulgaris

Overview
Smaller than blackbirds, with a short tail, pointed head, triangular wings, starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy with a sheen of purples and greens. Their flight is fast and direct and they walk and run confidently on the ground. Noisy and gregarious, starlings spend a lot of the year in flocks. Still one of the commonest of garden birds, its decline elsewhere makes it a Red List species.

Where to see them
Conspicuous and widespread in the UK, occurring everywhere except for the highest parts of the Scottish Highlands. They are most abundant in southern England and are more thinly distributed in upland areas with moorland. Still the UK's commonest garden bird. Huge roosts are found in plantations, reed beds and city centres.

When to see them
All year round. Large numbers arrive in autumn to spend the winter here.

What they eat
Insects and fruit.

Hi Deborah,
this photo represents the Starling very well with all the colour it has and a fine clear focus as well. The details are lovely for this bird, after all is a very common bird whom has uncommon colour to it's plumage.I never overlook common birds as really they are beautiful as any other and I thank you for sharing this star of a shot. Bob

You really caught the shimmering colors on that starling, Deb.
Beautiful details and an excellent pose. : )
I know that they are unpopular birds among birders, as they are very aggressive and undermine local bird populations, but I find their plumage quite striking.
TFS. : )

Hi Deborah,
You have certainly scored top marks for this one. Absolutely beautiful colouring on the feathering, sharp and all there.
Love the leaves which are not intrusive and good feet.
Great,

Oooh this is a nice one Deberoh! Look at those colours! Sometimes they get a bit of a bad press, but personally i think they are one our most beautifully marked birds, even if they are (or were it now seems) fairly common. Excellent composition, sharp detail and welll exposed. Great job.

As pesky as these are, I like how you captured the iridescence . Very nice POV and perch he is on.
As for footless on the water...well sometimes we want to show the details a bit larger perhaps, and have to sacrifice something
else. :)Cheers
