Red-billed Hornbill (Tockus erythrorhynchus)

The Red-billed Hornbill is distinguished from the others calaos by its spotted white wings and by its uniformly coloured red-orange beak. It measures approximately 45cm.
It lives the wet forests and the savanna of Kenya until 1400m. But it can be seen until 2000m.
It is omnivorous and eats as well plants as insects. It is not savage and approaches human habitation and lodges restaurants where it finds food in profusion.
It nest in natural cavities, in the trees or in rocks.
This photo was taken with a teleobjective of 135mm and was developed on slide. It was then digitized and modified as follows:

Le calao à bec rouge se distingue des autres calaos par ses ailes blanches tachetées de noir et par son bec entièrement rouge orangé. Il mesure environ 45cm.
Il habite les forêts humides et la savane du Kenya jusqu'à 1400m. Mais il peut être vu jusqu'à 2000m.
Il est omnivore et mange aussi bien des végétaux que des insectes. Il n'est pas farouche et approche volontiers les habitations et les restaurants des lodges où il trouve la nourriture en profusion.
Il niche dans des cavités naturelles, les arbres ou dans des rochers.

Cette photo a été prise au téléobjectif de 135mm et développée sur diapositive. Elle a été ensuite numérisée et modifiée comme suit:
Contraste: +20
Saturation: +10
Eclaircissement des tons foncés: 50%
Assombrissement des tons clairs: 5%

Il est superbe cet oiseau ! la faible profondeur de champ le met très bien en valeur, et il a une position très photogénique ! bien sur la qualité du scan ne reflete surement pas la qualité de l'originale, mais je crois que l'on oublie vite le manque de piqué tant cette prise est réussie !

Belle pose d'un bel oiseau, dommage pour le manque de piqué.
