Another Brown Pelican from the coast of Florida - this
time seen from on the Naples´ Pier.

The Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is the
smallest of the eight species of pelican, although it
is a large bird in nearly every other regard. It is
106-137 cm in length, weighs from 2.75 to 5.5 kg and
has a wingspan from 1.83 to 2.5 m.

It lives strictly on coasts from Washington and
Virginia south to northern Chile and the mouth of the
Amazon River, as well as the island of Saut d'Eau in
Trinidad and Tobago. Some immature birds may stray to
inland freshwater lakes. After nesting, North American
birds move in flocks further north along the coasts,
returning to warmer waters for winter. Their young are
hatched in broods of about 3, and eat around 150 lbs.
of fish in the 8-10 month period they are cared for.

There are four subspecies:
* P. o. californicus (California Brown Pelican)
* P. o. carolinensis (Eastern Brown Pelican)
* P. o. occidentalis (Caribbean Brown Pelican)
* P. o. urinator (Galápagos Brown Pelican)

Hello Thorsten
Nice capture with excellent details, beautiful composition and perfect focus.

Hi Thorsten,
Excellent capture! Magnificent flight pose.
Very good details. Though, colors looks too saturated.

Hallo Thorsten
Great stuff! The eye contact with the camera, even at the distance it is taken is remarkable. This is a great image with lots of clarity and detail, especially the edge of the long beak, the curve in the neck, the white head and of course the impressive wingspan with its beautiful feathers displayed so well. The lovely clear blue sky adds to bring out the detail of the bird to its best. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Thorsten,

You caught this one very sharp and it looks like the bird is showing off. I think he wants to communicate and wants to talk in a way like 'look at me, don't you think I'm beautiful'. Well, I think this bird is wonderful. And for the rest: all the credits go to the photographer. My compliments!!

Thor, this is a stunning in-flight!
The details are simply impeccable and the exposure...that is actually what i love the most. You managed to get some great details from the highlights and the shadows, too, which is remarkable and to have such a wonderful blue sky as a BG is a huge bonus.
Very well timed, as well, all concluding in this superb shot! My compliments!

Bravo and TFS
