Absolute laziness was something I experienced during the Christmas vacation, but now it's a rapid return to hard work...
So I dedicate this picture to all the hardworking TN members. And remember there always has to be time for moments like this :-)

The animal is:

Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus)

Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Phocidae

The Grey Seal is found on both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean. In Britain and Ireland, the Grey Seal breeds in several colonies on and around the coasts; notably large colonies are at the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast (about 6,000 animals), and North Rona off the north coast of Scotland and Lambay Island off the coast of Dublin. It is the largest native mammal in the British Isles, with the bulls reaching 2.5-3.3m long and weighing up to 300kg; the cows are much smaller, typically 1.6-2m long and 100-150kg weight. It is the typical seal of the northern and western coasts.

I had a great time taking photos in this seal colony. That was a day off (a moment of laziness :-)) between two serious conferences I attended and I really needed a break. The weather was great that day (as you know in Scotland it's not so obvious) and with my friend we travelled some 4 hours by coach from Glasgow to Oban just to breathe open air for few hours. We attended one of this tourist cruises on small fishing boats and observed also dolphins and a lot of seabirds. Then we had couple more hours to walk along the shore and of course to have some gooooood Scotish beer in a local pub. Then it was 4-hour trip back and early next morning I took a plane to Cork in Ireland...

For me it was also a sentimental trip - 12 years before, as an exchange student, I spent my vacation after the academic year hitch-hiking and camping along the Scotland's west coast for two weeks - Oban Bay was one of my favourite places. Memories, memories.... I become too sentimental now so it's the highest time to go to bed. Besides, is 3:30 AM here.... and in the morning new hard day starts :-)

Hello Michal,
thank you for this beautiful dedication!
Same as you, I came to remember how sweet laziness can be during those short holidays, but now I am about to forget that again. This charming, well taken picture will help me remember. Have a very good and happy New Year!

Hello Michal.
I like the way you've centered the subject in this comp, framing the seal in this dark green kelp..Very nice sharpness, detail, color, and light here. Nice POV and pose by your lazy model too :)
Have a nice weekend mf.

Hello Michal,
In Sweden we have yet another holiday to be lazy tomorrow, 12th Night!! Then it's all go keeping up with all the brilliant photographers on TN!
Lovely shot of this seal curled up on a cosy soft bed of greens. Nice focus and I like the composition.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

oh....yawn...I think I'll take one of those moments now...no wait...I'll write this first. I love the light on this little fellow curled up on the sea weed. It is a sweet image in a wonderfully simple composition. Nice work.

Thanks for sharing
