Hi all,
This is the wing of an owl butterfly! I liked the patterns and the details.

Butterflies are actually characterized by their scale covered wings. The coloration of butterfly wings is created by minute scales. These scales are pigmented with melanins that give them blacks and browns, but blues, greens, reds and iridescence are usually created not by pigments but the microstructure of the scales. This structural coloration is the result of coherent scattering of light by the photonic crystal nature of the scales! Wing markings called eye spots like the one seen here are present in some species; these may have an mimicry role for some species. In others, the function may be intra-secies communication, such as mate attraction. In several cases, however, the function of butterfly eye spots is not clear, and may be an evolutionary anomaly related to the relative elasticity of the genes that encode the spots

Hi Goutham,
A nice abstract of the wings of an owl butterfly. Nice details and composition of colors are excellent. BTW is it cropped or straight from cam. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Goutham!

Brilliant idea! I also like patterns and details very much. This picture looks like earth seen from plane - volcano or lake and dunes around. Great supermacro.

Hi Goutham,
This pic is really superb...
It really shows artist's eye behind the camera...

Goutham, Another brilliant close up. Your decision to focus on the eye is brilliant. It clearly shows how brilliant the butterflies are in their camouflage. Sometime they mimic water droplets, some time leaves, eyes... The texture is so clearly captured in your picture. The colors are brilliant too. A fresher butterfly would have made this even better.
