Lemur catta is a large prosimian of the family Lemuridae. All lemurs are only found on the island of Madagascar, off the eastern coast of southern Africa.

The ring-tailed lemur, like all other lemurs, is endangered in the wild due to habitat destruction, but is the most populous in captivity, producing readily.

Unlike other lemurs, the ring-tailed is mostly terrestrial, spending most of it's time on the ground.
