My Izmir trip seri continues with sixth shot and it is of small owl. As visitors know, I try to prepare original notes for giving information about species. Of course, I use literature also. I dont like copy and paste from classical sources. English on my notes may not be good. But I think that reader them understand them. .
The photo was taken in the garden of the visitor centre (museum) in İzmir Bird Paradisea. The owl roosted on a small tree located along road when camera on hand and dark cloudy weather.

Athene noctua (Scopoli, 1769) – Kukumav [TR], Little Owl [EN] with 23-27.5 cm in length is the smallest of 10 owl species in Turkiye. One of these species, Tyto alba which I posted its a capture in Northern Cyprus (TRNC) previously, belongs to the family Tytonidae, others to the family Strigidae. Turkish owl species with their vernacular names in Turkish and English are given just below.

*** Tyto alba– Peçeli Baykuş (Barn Owl)
*** Otus brucei – Çizgili İshakkuşu (Striated Scops Owl)
*** Otus scops – İshakkuşu (Scops Owl)
*** Bubo bubo – Puhu (Eagle Owl)
*** Ketupa zeylonensis – Balıkbaykuşu (Brown Fish Owl)
*** Athene noctua – Kukumav (Little Owl)
*** Strix aluco – Alaca Baykuş (Tawny Owl)
*** Asio otus – Kulaklı Orman Baykuşu (Long-Eared Owl)
*** Asio flammeus – Kır Baykuşu (Short-Eared Owl)
*** Aegolius funereus – Paçalı Baykuş (Tengmalm's Owl)
The genus Athene described by Boie, 1822. Sometimes it was also wrongly written as Athena. It consists four living species of small owls and they ranges all continents except for Australia, Antarctica, and Subsaharan Africa.
The species name “Athene noctua” was derivated from the goddess Athena who Little Owl was sacred him, in Greek mythology. noctua mean “living at night”.
However, it actives partly diurnal and It often appears and captures such as insects, earthworms, amphibians, small lizards and sometimes rodents, during the day.
A. noctua is single species of the genus in Turkiye and other Palaearctic areas. A. n. indigena is one of its three subspecies, occurs southeast Europe and Turkiye.

Thanx for your visiting.

many thanks for sharing
my respected man!
best regards

Well, this must be an Athene noctua week!
This is quite sharp for a hand-held 400 mm tele-shot Ahmet, the branch in front affected the focusing, I'm afraid, but still the "Kukumav"s direct eye-contact with you is very impressive. Good composition within a good frame!

Hello Ahmet,
Beautiful photo of this Owl. Personally I don't like the frame, but the Owl is very sharp, has lovely natural colours and the photo has a very good composition.

Hi Ahmet

Great POV - the leaves are great and the 'expression' on the owl's face is wonderful. I also like the brown nature of the composition.

Dr naber,
Hala olmadı mı şu MSN, özlettin kendini. Senin kukumav da oldukça güzel. Eline sağlık. Mustafa

Ahmet merhaba , senin Kukumavda çok güzel olmuş , cin gibi bakıyor :))

Hello Ahmet,
Awesome looking details on the face of this owl. Well seen plumage and stunning against that clear sky. The foliage in the fg actually a good sense of being caught in the wild.

Hi Ahmet,
A beautiful capture of this small owl. Well composed with excellent details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Ahmet ,
It is rare that we see them with their eyes opened! What a cute little fellow! He made me laugh with this strange expression like he was very disturbed. You caught nice details in good exposure and I like this composition even with those branches in foreground, it makes this nice scenery look natural. Well seen!

Hi Ahmet.
Very cute owl and so beautiful picture. Amazing subject, created by impressive branch and fine bird. Excellent delicate and pleasant to eye colour palette and very good details. Image is soft a bit but in this case it is not a point. My compliments and TFS. So refined work.

Hi Ahmet

Lovely capture of this very beautiful bird....I think the foliage is somewhat distracting, but we don't alway get a chance at the perfect composition...several people comment on the sharpness being very good, but it looks slightly soft to me....still very nice
