In the first place I would like to thank all of you for viewing at and there wonderful comments on my previous uploads. Highly appreciated!!!

This time an image of a bird, the Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) I did make some shots of nearly two years ago, early in the morning, at the Lauwersmeer area in the Netherlands.
While shooting I was in a hide. Used no tripod, but a beanbag to support the heave load of the Nikon D2x at ISO 400, Nikon 500mm F4.0 AF-S and the Nikon TC14E teleconverter.

From Wikipedia

Lauwersmeer is a man-made lake in the north of the Netherlands, on the border of the provinces of Groningen and Friesland. The lake was formed on 1969-05-23, when the dike between the bay called "Lauwers Sea" and the Wadden Sea was closed.
On the eastern shores of the Lauwersmeer is the Marnewaard, an exercise area of the Royal Netherlands Army. The central and eastern parts of the lake became Lauwersmeer National Park, a national park, on 2003-11-12.

The Lauwers Sea (in Dutch: Lauwerszee) was formed by a flood in 1280, and named after the river Lauwers, which flows along the border between the provinces of Groningen and Friesland. During the flood the mouth of the Lauwers river disappeared, and its tributaries the Reitdiep, the Dokkumerdiep, and the Ee flowed directly into the new bay. Many plans were made after this disaster to shut it off from the sea but none were ever put into effect. However, parts of it were empoldered piecemeal, slowly reducing it from a large two-forked estuary to the nearly-square inlet seen on recent maps.
In 1960, following the flood disaster of 1953, the government decided that it was now time to drain the Lauwerszee, and began with a 13 kilometers (8 mi) long dike with sluices and a canal lock. A new harbour called Lauwersoog was built part-way along the dike. Final enclosure and separation from the Wadden Sea took place on 25 May 1969; since then it has been called Lauwersmeer.
New flora and fauna appeared as the Lauwerszee gradually became a freshwater lake, and to protect this new and young nature area, it was decided (12 November 2003) to designate the Lauwersmeer as a national park. The ferry to Schiermonnikoog that had previously departed from Oostmahorn now leaves from Lauwersoog.
There is a lack of agreement about whether to spell the name as "Lauwersee" or "Lauwerszee". Some older maps show it as "Lauwerzee".

Razor-sharp image of this Snipe, Harry!
The clarity here is exceptional!
Very good composition and POV.
Nice light too.
I think it may be a little over-saturated but that's only a minor nit.
Well done my friend!

Hi Harry,
A perfect and beautifull executed capture of this wonderful Common Snipe. Superb clarity and DOF. TFS my friend!

Hi harry,
very good shot
Colours,sharpness,contrast are perfect
also the moment you captured is very good
thanks a lot for sharing
Best regards Toba

Harry, Very good looking image. The Nikor 500 has produced excellent contrast and colors. The fact that the Snipe is having a worm in its beaks makes the picture look more interesting. It is difficult to deal with the cluttered background. It also adds a sense of environment to the picture. How long did you have to wait to get this picture?

Hi Harry,

He may be called a Common Snipe, but he is not common to me. I think this is the first time I have seen one. Excellent shot showing him off perfectly. Beautiful natural colors and excellent details of the entire bird. That is some beak!!! Love the natural setting.

Harry, when people see some great technical event that they don't fully understand, as they are still learning the art themselves they call it "magic". This shot to me is magic.

You have given us a simple bird, but through your capture with this camera, lens and beanbag arrangement, and with a little PP, you have made it pop, and all this at a mere 187K. The colours are awesome both on the bird and the background, and with all this colour the bird stands out well. He's standing in mud, but he looks good. You timed it well with him picking at that stem, while turning his eye to the camera to give you the catchlight. Depth of field is shallow, but you have the bird perfectly positioned in your focal range. It's all good. This is the kind of shot I like to study to learn from.

Thanks, John

Very nice capture, beautiful colors and great composition
the long bill and the sharpness of the picture is awesome
..Well done

Hello Harry,

This is a very good, sharp shot of the snipe. Its patterned, plummage shows up very well as does its green legs and the reflected glint in its eye.

It is so good to see it feeding in its natural habitat.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bedankt voor je reactie op mijn foto. Dit is ook een beauty zeg.
