[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This year I didn't make my annual trip up Dog Mountain to see the Balsamroot show, so when I found a photo someone had taken on Portland Hikers.org of the Balsamroot show on Grassy Knoll, I decided to give it a try instead. The flower show here is a bit later as the elevation is higher than the Dog Mountain show. I wasn't disappointed as this field was covered with the showy yellow flowers.

There are three different Balsamroots in the Columbia Gorge, Carey's, Northwest, and Arrowroot, but they can be difficult to distinguish from one another. For more information visit Paul Slichter's Web site.

The flowers of the Balsamroot look quite similar to the sunflower.
And what a wonderful scene seeing them growing in bunches on teh hjill like this.
