[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One of the most beautiful moths in Portugal.
It is the largest too.
Their caterpillars feed on the foliage of a range of foodplants, primarily fruit trees, such as Juglans regia, Malus, Pirus, Prunus and also Fraxinus and Populus. They have four instars befor becames into a beautiful moth.
The wingspan is 100 to 130 mm.
It belongs to the Saturniidae Saturniinae Saturniini family.
Descovered by Denis & Schiffermüller in 1775.
Is known as Great Peacock Moth in english.
I had the oportunity to create 9 caterpillars from the egg and till now 4 turns into moths. This is one of them.

Ola Paulo!

Nice to see you again!

Moth on your picture looks impressive. Patterns on wings are detailed and colorfull. Nice composition. As Krzysiek wrote sharpness could be better but overall this is very good come back.

Hallo Paulo
I agree 100% with you about the beauty of this moth. It is a spectacular sight. Nice wing colour and texture, especially the lining along the edges of the wings. This is a super shot, with fantastic sharpness and a great combination of colours. Photo is well framed and the presentation is splendid and in a fine manner. Thanks for sharing this special photo.
Kind regards

Hallo Paulo,
Very good photo of this bit moth!
Excellent POV with wings wide open!
Good on colours and BG!Very good DOF and details!
Regards Siggi

Paolo, boa tarde!
So nice to see a fresh posting from you!
Beautifully presented Great Peacock Moth.
I like its natural colours in the pleasantly dim light.
What an exciting encounter - in German language it is called the Viennese Peacock Moth, probably because it was first described from here. Whenever I come to see one of these bat-size moths it comes as a great event. But I do not see it every year in spring, sometimes I just see one of its giant green caterpillars crossing my path in midsummer.
Must be a real job feeding those caterpillars in captivity, considering their enormous appetite. And it must be a very happy event to see those moths emerging from their cocoons in spring.
With thanks, and all my best wishes from Vienna,

Hi Paulo,
this is a very beautiful moth and you have catch it in a nice way. The colours and pattern are beautiful.
The moth standout well from the BG and I agree with Krzysztof

What can I say about your picture
Fantastic The biggest European moth. Great OOF background nice fied guide POV.

Sharpness is good but I think that you could do a little selective sharpen or unsharp mask on wings and maybe add a little contrast
I am waiting for more

Hi Paulo again.
It is really amazing and very beautiful moth. I have met it only once and have been very impressed. Excellent POV and diagonal composition of the image. WS is significantly better than original image. Nice work and all the best.
