Ptyodactylus puiseuxi (Levant Fan-footed Gecko) [in Turk. Levanten Yelpazeayaklı Keleri] (Male)

Dear friends, hope all of you are well! After a relatively long break from TN that we were in a long trip including the Middle East i could find a opportunity to upload a lava rock beauty from Jordan (Neaime, Jarash).

TFL and Have a nice WE!

Levant Fan-footed Gecko is the typical species for the northern Levant, distributed in Lebanon, Israel, Syria, Jordan and probably W Iraq. In Jordan, it is widely distributed through Mediterranean habitats of W Jordan and in eastern black lava desert. It inhabits rocky cliffs, groups of bigger stones and ruins in various types of habitats (Mediterranean oak forests, Mediterranean steppes); in the black lava desert it does not avoid even extensive flat fields of small lava boulders.

Levant Fan-footed Gecko is middle sized, relatively robust gecko with a contrasting spotted coloration. Head is triangular, rather flat. Eyes are relatively big, with a vertical pupil and brownish to reddish iris. The extremities are, in comparison to other Jordanian Ptyodactylus -P. guttatus (Spotted Fan-footed Gecko) and P. hasselquistii (Egyptian Fan-footed Gecko), relatively short (please see attached WS to see details of a limb). Fan-like adhesive lamellae are similar to other members of the genus. Tail is shorter than head and body, with 27-31 caudal whorls. Dorsal tubercles are small, rounded and/or bluntly conical. Typically, there are 10-20 tubercles on forelimbs. Coloration varies in shadows of vivid dark grey, black or grey-brown, with numerous white and greyish spots on the head, dorsum and extremities, including fingers and toes. Pairs of middorsal spots often coalesce. There are more or less expressed white crossbars on the tail. Dorsal pattern of females and juveniles is less contrast. Adult specimens reach a Snout-Vent length of 75 mm. Sexual dimorphism is well pronounced, males are bigger, more robust, having a contrasting colour pattern and possessing distinctly swollen hemipenial pouches.

Levant Fan-footed Gecko is rupicolous, mostly diurnal species, with morning and afternoon peaks of activity, commonly observed basking on rocks in the late morning; during the summer active also after the sunset. Although populations are often very dense, they are territorial, living solitarily or, mainly in breeding season, in pairs. Males are loudly vocalizing. Mating takes place in spring and summer, females lays several clutches consisting of two hard-shelled eggs. Food spectrum consists mostly of various smaller arthropods. Majority of populations hibernate between December and February.

Merhaba Bayram Dostum,
Welcome back!
A fine shot of a Levant Fan-footed Gecko taken in a technically first class image from a fine lateral POV and in a great pose on the rock against the clean BG, to make this a superb portrait of this species.
I not only admire the shot but that you could fine the gecko as well in the first place!
Thanks for sharing this,
Have a good weekend,

Hi Bayram,

Once again you show us another great shot of a reptile.
The detail is great and there are some nice colours on display. I can why its habitat is one these stones because it seems to blend in so well.
There is a nice DOF leaving a good OOf background.
Great capture and TFS

Hello Bayram,
A very special photo of a very special gecko. I think you can find these animals only in countries where it is hot and dry. So you got to suffer a lot to take a photo like this one.
Fantastic in every aspect. Very beautiful! Thanks for this great contribution.

Ohhh ohh görünüşe göre Suriye Ürdün verimli geçmiş hocam. Çok değişik ve harilka bir gekko türü. Deseni çok güzel. Hoşgeldiniz bu arada gözlerimiz yollarda kaldı. Ben de bugün Aydın'dan İzmire geldim. Emeklerinize sağlık hocam. Saygılarımla,

Merhaba MF Prof. Bayram,
you trip make us waited for the exciting subject. You never frustrate anyone!
Especially this one...speechless to talk about its beauty.
Really splendid with curving pose...it is stunning.

Welcome back, Prof Bayram!
Your journeys must have taken you to the most exotic places in the ME. This Gecko from Jordan proves you have had a variegated experience of wild life in that region.
The picture is simply mind-blowing with this lovely reptile hugging a rock formation. As usual, we get to see this creature from the best possible perspective. Your elaborate note profiles this species very graphically.
Thanks and looking forward to many more of your new images from the trip.

Merhaba sevgili arkadaşım,
Welcome back on TN after this long break! Congratulations for this amazing beauty with fantastic pattern and mysterious eyes, taken in day time! I guess you disturb her when she was sleeping..:) Colours and sharpness are really impressive, including the fingers. I wish you an interesting trip back to Izmir MF. Elinize sağlık. İyi seyahatler,

Hello MF Bayram.
Fantastic shot of this Gecko. The DOF is spot on and the details on the lizard are very good. Great work.Welcome back Bayram.
Best regards Siggi

Tebrikler hocam,

hello Bayram
great picture with good details and beautiful colours
very good pose on the rock
greeting lou

Hallo Bayram
The Levant Fan-footed Gecko is a striking reptile with lots of prominent and most likeable features. I especially fancy the beaded brownish eye and very interesting paws. It almost seems as if this guy is smiling at you. It looks very relaxed and does not seem to be bothered by you or your camera at all. The image is super sharp, the composition is great and I just love the natural sunlight that emphasise the lovely patterns and colours of its skin to the best. It is a beauty. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

amazing portrait, I know it from eastern Israel, TFS and greetings Ori

Hello Bayram,
Good to see you back and with a brilliant capture of a fantastic Gecko! I love the way it is posed flat on the lava rock. Fantastic details and colours and the markings are very beautiful. A great low POV and it is well framed too!
I appreciate the very interesting close-up of the 'suction' limbs in the WOrkshop!
Thanks a lot and best wishes, Ulla

Genial !
Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Bayram,

it's good to see your work again, Bayram! If this first example of your latest harvest is any guide, I can expect to see many more wonders from you! The picture is technically perfet and intresting from the herpetology viewpoint. You got this Gecko to present itself just so that the background is neutral and the light is best! And in addition to that you can see all the particularities of the species.

My best regards to you

Erkek gerçekten çok yakışıklıymış hocam. Nefis olmuş.
Emeklerinize sağlık. Saygılar.
Ankara'dan selamlar.
