An excellent portrait shot on this Grey Heron. Nice soft light and a spot on exposure have rendered beautiful colors and sharp detail. I like the frame filling composition and tight crop.

I see these each day on my travels, and take 100's of photos of them. To hear this sound when they start a flight, or get a bit scared is quite something. It sounds so vulgar.So about this shot...you managed to get the eye in good focus. Important.I also like the DOF.Seems a bit of motion going on back there, which does the still bird justice.

Its eye is piercing indeed. I like those tones of colors and great details. This close composition is very good too and I like its beak with what it looks like being spider's web... It looks like he is 100 years old :) This is a very nice portrait. You picture in your intro made me smile too :))) Nice look for a future teacher, lol!

Hello Simon,
Beautifully shot! These are amazing birds aren't they?! They to me look like old men all hunched over. I capture them with my camera at my lake house. Usually they are out fishing....or begging from Fishermen on the dock....I have some in my gallery one of them is called "Perfect Form" They can be difficult in the wild to photograph....but it is worth the effort to be sure! Nice composition, color and clarity!
