[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hot day in Antarctica, it is just +5C, but dark basalt sand on a shore is much more warm, temperature near ground can reach even +25 C. It is too much for Elephant Seals, they try to cool off: from time to time throwing some wet sand on their back. To caught this moment I spent half an hour waiting for right time for picture.

Piotr,

this is wonderful.
Photographically it's of a very high standard.
Subject wise it's as good as it gets. The expression on the Seal is exquisite, he's smiling!!
Great action with the sand.

Fantastic.

Hi Piotr,

A well captured moment, well worth waiting for, excellent work and tfs

Paul

This is a great capture and worth the wait. The elephant seals along our coast like to throw sand over themselves too. I'd think these pebbles would be a bit more trouble. The snout looks different than the elephant seals I'm familiar with but I am no expert on sea mammals.

Hahah, Piotr.
Another great shot from Antarctica!
I love the expression on that face, and you did a great job of catching that wet sand flying. I have taken many shots of elephant seals on the California coast, and they do the same thing. The whole rookery would be fuzzy with flying sand. It is a funny sight.
Anyway, great shot! Really sharp details.
Great contrast against the blue sky.
And a wonderful LOW POV.
TFS. : )
