[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During my last summer "Holidays on Ice" in the North Italian Alps I found a number of interesting insects - some of them resting on ice and exposed to the sun.

Here I show a grasshopper or better icehopper. The picture was taken at about 2400 m in the upper Peder Valley. Besides this kind of hoppers, I also observed butterflies with widely opened wings on larger ice-fields.

Species? I'm not sure about the exact species identity:

Conditions
- brigth sunlight with strong reflections from the ice crystals
- ISO 100, 1/400sec, f11
- no wind
- cold hands and fingers :-)

Hello Peter.

I have never seen a grasshopper on ice, thought it would be to cold for them.
But you show us that they like skating however it looks a little onnatural to me.
Great capture of this grashopper and the combination of the colors of the ice and the grashopper contrasts very well to eachother.
Very nice picture and thanks for sharing it.

Lieber Peter,
es freut mich ausserordentlich, dass Du auch weniger populäre Organismen ablichtest und Dich für deren Lebensweise interessierst. Das hast Du schon immer getan, die obige "Heugümper"- Larve ist ein weiteres gutes Beispiel dafür. Hochinteressant, dass sich das Tier im Schnee sonnt. Könnte das Omocestus haemorrhoidalis sein? Die Larve hat einen rötlichen Schimmer. Das und die Prothorax- Seitenkiele haben mich dank Baur et al. auf die Idee gebracht.

Bei der Aufnahme hast Du Dich, was Kontraste und überstrahlendes Weiss angeht, hervorragend geschlagen.

Hello Peter,
The picture itself is an art. I can not imagine what you did to achieve such good detail in the grasshopper (quite dark) and at the same time, take a light and perfect texture in the ice (in tone quite clear). Of course, all a waste of adjustments and settings!
Moreover, very interesting to know the resistor level to cold they have!

This is an unusual scenery for me, grasshopper on ice. Great exposure control, focus and point of view.
