Bald Cypress growing in swamps have a peculiarity of growth called cypress knees. These are woody projections sent above the ground or water that are part of the root system. Their function was once thought to be to provide oxygen to the roots, which grow in the low dissolved oxygen (DO) waters typical of a swamp (as in mangroves). However, there is little evidence for this; in fact, roots of swamp-dwelling specimens whose knees are removed do not decrease in oxygen content and the trees continue to thrive. Another more likely function is that of structural support and stabilization. Bald Cypress growing on flood-prone sites tend to form buttressed bases, but trees grown on drier sites may lack this feature. Buttressed bases and a strong, intertwined root system allows them to resist very strong winds; even hurricanes rarely overturn them. ( Wikipedia)

Ana,

this is the bayou -it reminds me a song of Creedence Clearwater Revival- one of the most beautiful places where to take photos, in my opinion.Nature at its best.This image shows some imperfections, a little bit OE in the BG, but the colours are well saturated and the atmosphere is simply wondeful and charming, especially from this POV.The light when all is said and done is well managed in this difficult situation.Hence for me is an interesting and well made photo.

Hello Ana,
Great to see these cypresses growing in their habita, nicely captured to show their thickened trunk bases against a nice light BG that shows what the area is like though the trees.
The wildlife here must be great!

Como en tu anterior trabajo, nos muestras un trabajo muy interesante ya que nos
das a conocer fenómenos poco habituales o desconocidos para alguno de nosotros.
No tengo ni "papa" de Ingles pero gracias al traductor de google he podido entender tu explicación
y me quedo con la segunda teoría, osea, más bien se engrosan para un mejor sustento en
esas difíciles condiciones de inundación.

Hola Ana,
Interesantes arboles, yo no conocía esta especie de ciprés tan asociada al medio acuatico.
Ciertamente a la foro le falta algo para transmitir armonía completa, pienso que tiene que ver con la lux del centro superior, pero es un detalle difícil de cuestionar, por cuanto al mismo tiempo parece obedecer a condiciones de luz natural bien registradas.
Buen trabajo, con una nota muy interesante.

Bonjour Ana,
Voilà une photo diffcile à réaliser. Tu as certainement bien choisi ton angle de vue et le contrejour joue ici parfaitement son rôle de mettre l'accent sur la forme particulière de ces arbres. La netteté en souffre un peu, mais l'ensemble est plaisant et surtout c'est un posting intéressant par le sujet choisi.
