HIPPARCHIA STATILINUS

Tree Grayling
Faune, Arachné, Coronis
Kleine Rostbinde, Eisenfarbiger Samtfalter

Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Satyrinae
Wingspan: 44-46mm
Habitat: Woods, woodedges, sandy soils
Distribution:S- and Central-Europe, N'Africa, Anatolia,
Caucasus

The larvae feed on Corynephorus canescens, Bromus and other grasses. One generation a year, from June to October.
I have seen this butterfly often posed on sandy soils and little stones, like on the picture, an ideal place to rest and to be more or less invisible.
It was the first time I have seen this species.

Hello Anne,
Lovely presentation of this butterfly in amazing sharpness and details and beautiful colours. Great DOF and a pleasing composition.
Regards,

Anne, this is a very nice picture of this butterfly.
The stony background gives a vivid impression of its habitat.
I have seen and shot only a few Satyrinae at higher altitude in the Himalayas, mostly in dark and shady forests.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Anne.
I am impressed a lot with the lowest POV, shallow DOF, ultimate details of the beautiful butterfly and amazing BG. Great, very impressive close-up with wonderful neutral colour palette. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.

Liebe Anne,
Peter
