Common name:Yellow-legged Mining-bee
The Yellow-legged mining bee is a solitary bee 8-12 mm long very common in gardens, parks, south-facing cliffs, grasslands, orchards and on the edges of cropped agricultural land.
The bee has a two flight periods each year. It flies
from March to May, and again from June to early
August. The spring generation is usually much more
numerous than the summer generation, with thou-
sands of individuals at favoured sites.
Andrena flavipes nests are constructed in the ground,
and are often found in dense aggregations in suit-
able,exposed banks and cliffs, tended lawns, flower
beds, roadside verges and in sparsely vegetated field
margins.
Pollen is collected from a wide range of plants in-
cluding flowering trees and shrubs, weeds and gar-
den species. For the upper reason is a very valuable polinator. |

Nice macro of the Mining Bee, Nikos.
I like the way its leg is loaded with pollen.
A pleasant looking composition with the flower.

Hello Nikos,
What a neat shot of this pollen covered bee. The bright colors and fine detail immediately captured my attention. Reminds me somewhat of the sweat bees that we have here in Ohio. I really like the off center placement of the bee and the exposure is perfect.
