Taken at Buckfast Butterfly Park. I have spent a while trying to ID this but unfortunatley I have no shots with the wings open and therefore no luck
Taken using a mono pod and iso 800

Some general info
Butterflies and moths make up the large group (or Order) of insects known as the Lepidoptera. This comes from the Greek words for "scale" and "wing". This Order is divided into families of butterflies and moths and there are about 150,000 different species.

Well this is one of the 150 000

Geoff:
Red Lacewing Cethosia biblis, a species widespread from northern India to China, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Super-shallow DOF on this one, and the point of critical sharpness seems to be just behind the eye. Fill flash is really the only sure answer for macro shots in low light, but here I would have traded the shutter speed down to 1/100 for a smaller aperture.
Regards, Nigel.

Hi Geoff,
I like this one so much, I also saw this butterfly last saturday in Hamm, Germany, in the Butterfly House there. I also don't know the ID, but I think Nigel knows what he's telling you. I will post you the butterfly with open wings over the Workshop, so you can recherche by you own. Hope it is a little helpful for you.
Anyway I like your shot, it's so colourful, thanks for sharing

Great photo Geoff.
The butterfly is very well focused and detailed. The colours are great and the POV is good to.
Well done, regards
Matt.
