Melanargia galathea

[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a marbled white butterfly, Melanargia galathea (Nymphalidae, Satyrinae), resting and feeding in a spiny environment which can be harmful for its delicate wings. The photo was taken on the southern slopes of Mont Ventoux (Vaucluse) using a 135mm macro lens combined with an Olympus auto extension tube.
The wishy-washy green colour of the plant reflects its real appearance. Colours and outlines of the objects were intended to contrast against the dark background.
NOTE: This picture is re-posted here due to a workshop which brought up that my screen settings were not well adjusted resulting in 'over-exposed' pictures. I thank for the comments and workshops which helped to identify this 'mistake'. |

Hi Peter,
A very clear shot of this marbled white butterfly.
Sharp details and good exposure.
I really like this composition as the flowers and the butterfly seem to follow a similar color scheme. I also like the juxtaposition of the curves and circles on the butterfly against the straight and bristly shapes on the plant.
TFS. : )
Nice picture of these Nymphalidae. The composition is good but there are some noise points on the picture - have you got any noise on your lens?

Hi Peter,
White butterfly and plant colors looks great against the dark background. I like the crop you have used and contrast against soft and straight shapes.
