Wow, Geoff. What is it with you guys lately -- it seems like a spate of eagle shots and all of them great? I want a conservancy!

This is an exquisite portrait -- I like the vertical portrait format and the tight details on the head. I even like the details on the body feathers. I only wish it was shot against a slightly lighter background -- but that's splitting hairs!

Great handling of the exposure. Fill flash did a perfect job of disclosing highlights while not overpowering the natural light. Detail on feathers is beautiful. Well done.

Superb photograph. Impeccable. My only quibble is a philosophical one: this is a studio shot, not one from the wild. The purist within me argues that one should always shoot birds in the wild. The pragmatist argues otherwise. I haven't resolved that debate. No smileys: I abstain until I resolve this personal debate.

Hi Geoff,
I believe this is Cheyenne, I posted a picture of her earlier :-) The blown whites are minimal and I think with these Eagles it's fairly easy to get away with it, especially with a fairly shallow DOF. Great shot, a very regal pose, excellent detail, nice framing, a great shot.

Hi Geoff,

Lovely shot of a bird i know quite well now. The blown whites at the top of his head are minimal and don't distract from the excellent quality of this image. Fill flash has put light into the shadows and added a nice catchlight. POV, DOF and background are perfect.
