Whereas I am not a hundred percent sure about the ID of this gull,
and whereas I know that it is an Aussie Gull, I have for now named this post Larus Australis.
Larus of course is latin for gull...

Like all other gulls I know this one was also interested in dining out at McD's! I was having a coffee at said 5* establishment when young Mr. or Ms. Larus "dropped in"... After scrounging around my table < which had no leftovers > it went and sat on the wall behind me... whence I got a fairly close-up shot.
The red "bar" on the right edge is the "Welcome to *****" sign... It is my guess that this famished Aussie gull is able to read!

I suspect that this is actually the Silver Gull , as Australians call this "model"... [ The Silver Gull has a white head, tail and underparts, with a light grey back and black-tipped wings. In adult birds the bill, legs and eye-ring are bright orange-red. ] I am not sure though because of the colour of its beak.
Could it by chance be a juvenile?

The Silver Gull (Larus novaehollandiae) also known simply as "seagull" in Australia, is the most common gull seen in Australia. It has been found throughout the continent, but particularly coastal areas. The South African Hartlaub's Gull (Larus hartlaubii) and the New Zealand Red-billed Gull (Larus scopulinus) were formerly sometimes considered to be subspecies of the Silver Gull.

The Silver Gull should not be confused with the Herring Gull, which is called "silver gull" in many other languages (scientific Latin Larus argentatus, German Silbermöwe, French Goéland argenté, Dutch zilvermeeuw) but is a much larger, robust gull with no overlap in range.

It is a common species, having adapted well to urban environments and thriving around shopping centres and garbage dumps.

Hi Jay,
wow you sure got close to the bird in this shot and that is not always easy to do.Because of your near proximity you have got very good detail in this capture,with the fine feathery feathers,good colour and focus,this photo is an all around a fine capture.Thanks for showing us this down-under bird. Hi Jay. A very good close up of this gull. It shows the large strong beak very well. The clarity and colours are excellent. I have practised on some gulls recently and found them to be cooperative subjects. TFS. Murray.

Hello Jay,
Nice capture,well it does look similar to the Fairy Tern/Little Tern, but i found that they have really black eyes!!!.

Good shot, with great details, lighting and environment.

bonjour jay
il manque un peu d'espace devant l'oiseau,mais la netteté est bonne et l'exposition aussi.
le point de vue est bien choisit et place l'oiseau cevant le bleu deu ciel pour le mettre en valeur.
