|This whitetail deer has become pretty common in this area of Ohio (Cleveland suburb). I’ve been living at this location since 1986, and sometimes it seems as though every year we see more and more wildlife in our back yard. When we first moved in, we landscaped to make the property a bit more “animal friendly”. It was mostly overgrown and scattered. With a little work, and a little help from nature over time, we now have what I humbly would call a mini-wildlife sanctuary. However, if you feed the squirrels and the birds, you’ll also be feeding chipmunks, skunk, possum, raccoons, and of course the neighborhood cats. Though quite shy and skittish by nature, the deer have become very bold, a necessity in order to obtain food in an area that, in my opinion, is being developed far faster than it should. So now we not only have these beautiful creatures every evening, but often two or three times a day. Our record for spotting them stands at eight deer at one time during the daylight hours. At night it’s harder to get a full count. Most times you hear them more than anything. If I live here another 20 years, I’ll always feel honored to see them come by the house. I’ll never take their appearances for granted. As far as sharing our property (and best flowers) with them, I keep the attitude that “they were here first”. Who knows, they’ll probably be here last. |
Lastly, I tried different croppings with this shot, none of which I was satisfied with.
