Sturnus vulgaris (44)
|Hello everybody !!! Here I am, with a new picture - at last. I have been wanting to post something ever since Christmas, but I have never found the time, but today I found some minutes to upload it. |
On the picture you can see a bird I have shot through my living room window. It is a European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris). I have a feeder where I am feeding the birds with old nuts, and so far I have 8 species that come eating. It is great to watch them come and go, and to watch how the different species are interacting with each other.
The reason why I have chosen to post the picture of this Starling is very simple : I didn't even know this species was living so close to our house. I had NEVER seen it before. And then suddenly, one cold winter day, a pair appeared out of nowhere at my feeder. I was so excited, I and luckily the baby was in his bed so I could grab my camera and shoot.
The picture is nothing exceptional - first there is this ugly metal bar in the FG, hiding the bird's legs, and then the quality is not the best either. And it was taken through the (not so clean) window, it was definitely too cold outside to open it. I was also afraid the bird would disappear again, so I wanted to be quick. I took several pictures, this is the best, then both birds flew away.
They appeared again the next day, and each day after that, eating my nuts at the window. Then the snow disappeared, temperatures became milder, and they didn't come back. I miss them.
In the WS, you can see a picture taken on the same snowy day... but with a very different subject ! :-)
