The so-called cotton weed plant is a small perennial that grows in the dune areas throughout the Mediterranean, It is important in stabilizing sandy soils. The plant is covered by thick white down as a means of protection against sand grains flown by the wind. The composite flower-heads are made of small tubular yellow flowers, about 2 mm in diameter.

See the WS for a blow up and a picture of the the entire plant. It is now photographed quite close to the end of its blooming season.
