Danaus chrysippus, known as the “plain tiger” or the “African monarch”, is widespread in Asia and Africa. Like other Danainae subfamily members it feeds on the genus Asclepias, (“milkweed”), making it unpalatable to most predators.

These specimens were captured feeding on the last flowers of the season of Urginea (Drimia) maritima, the Sea Squill.
